Professor in the Department of Sociology and Communication at the Faculty of Education, Salamanca University. Member of the University Institute for Integration in the Community (INICO). Member of the Spanish Association of Sociology for Disability (ASESDIS), which he chaired between 2008 and 2011. Promotor of InterSocial (www.intersocial.es), an organisation dedicated to consultancy and social research activities, which he headed between 1999 and 2017. Editor of the journal Actas de Coordinación Sociosanitaria [Proceedings of Socio-Sanitary Coordination], published by the CASER Foundation.

He has been involved in conducting numerous studies in sociological research at local, regional, national and international level, on disability and other groups at risk of exclusion. He has undertaken consultancy and research activities for sundry public and private institutions, involving projects related to inclusion, caring for the elderly and the disabled, as well as technical advocacy in the development and assessment of public policies in collaborations with the following: INE, CERMI, ONCE, ERDF, Down España, the Regional Government of Castilla y León, the Community of Madrid, the Region of Murcia, the Royal Trust on Disability, IMSERSO, Spain’s Ministry of Health, Social Services, and Equality, Spain’s Ministry of Education, the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the Iberoamerican Social Security Organization (OISS), among others.
