Gabriel Álvarez López

 

Graduate in Pedagogy from Salamanca University (2009), Master in Acción Solidaria Internacional de Europa [European International Solidarity Action] from the Carlos III University in Madrid (2010), Master’s in Calidad y Mejora de la Educación [Quality and Improvement in Education] from the Autónoma University in Madrid (2013), and Master’s in Políticas Públicas y Sociales [Public and Social Policies] from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and the Johns Hopkins University (2015). He holds a Doctorate in Education from the Autónoma University in Madrid, with a study called “La evaluación de la Educación básica en el sistema educativo español: un estudio comparado en el ámbito de las Comunidades Autónomas” [The evaluation of basic schooling in the Spanish education system: a comparative study within the scope of the Autonomous Communities], awarded Magna Cum Laude. This work won him the 7th National Pedro Roselló Prize awarded by the Spanish Society for Comparative Education for a doctoral thesis defended in 2016 and 2017.

He is a member of the Spanish Society for Comparative Education. He sits on the Editorial Committee of the Spanish Journal of Comparative Education (REEC). He is a research fellow in the Group on Supranational Educational Policies (GIPES) at the Autónoma University in Madrid, and he has recently joined the Research Group on Procesos, Espacios y Prácticas Educativas [Processes, spaces and educational practices] (GIPEP) at Salamanca University.

He teaches subjects related to Educational Theory and Policy, Didactics and School Organisation and Social Pedagogy.

He is currently working on the following lines of research: the assessment of educational systems, the assessment of university quality, comparative educational policy, and teachers’ professional development.
